CNN Poll: Does Obama Show 'Proper Patriotism' to be Prez? [Updated]

I guess this is where we are headed.

The poll is on CNN's front page.

They're also fronting a story about Obama's patriotism.  Is Barack Obama's patriotism now a legitimate topic for "discussion"?  

What about John McCain's patriotism? Was it Patriotic of John McCain to lie to the American people about his relationship with lobbyists?

Was it Patriotic of John McCain to lie to South Carolina voters about his views on the Confederate flag?  

And what is the difference between 'proper patriotism' and improper patriotism?

        That's what a lot of folks have been taught by their parents, grandparents, coaches, 1st grade teachers, etc. However, that's incorrect. As of 1942 or so, US code (courtesy Cornell University) is very specific that you will put hand on heart (unless you're in uniform, then you salute from 1st note to last note).

        Nobody does!

        Well, not nobody, but usually much less than half, yes. The next time you're at some organized sports event (high school basketball game, college football game, major league baseball game, whatever) take a look around during the anthem.  You'll usually see anywhere from 20-30% of the crowd with their hand on their heart. I've never, ever seen more than 50%. A lot of it depends on the athletes; if their coaches have taught them hand-on-heart, then the crowd follows along... :-)
