Petition: IMPEACH President John/Jane Doe in 2009
Sat Nov 17, 2007 at 09:11:40 PM PDT
There have been quite a few posts and even diaries of late pressing us to confirm now our undying loyalty to the candidate of the party, regardless of who she (cough or he) is.
Since we are getting in the habit of asking people to sign blank checks, let me then offer my own. Surely, anybody that would agree that we must support the nominee of the party regardless of who he/she is would also feel as sanguine about signing the following petition.
Petition:
WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, DEMAND THAT PRESIDENT JOHN/JANE DOE IN 2009 SHOULD BE IMPEACHED FOR NEEDLESSLY CONTINUING A FOOLISH WAR IN IRAQ AND WASTING OUR COUNTRY'S PRECIOUS BLOOD, YOUTH, AND TREASURE ON A DISTRACTION FROM AMERICA'S REAL SECURITY NEEDS.
If somebody wants to rewrite this and post an amended version, feel free do so in comments. I'm open to suggestions. Keep it short and succinct.
Let's all sign this now. Why wait until after the election? Surely, any President who would do such a thing, regardless of party, would deserve the full force of our wrath. We should do everything possible to remove such a man/woman from office before there are more needless deaths, more brain-damaged vets, more amputees returning home to ask what was this all for? And as we enter what may well be the nascent stages of a worldwide recession, certainly we can agree that any president, Bush or anybody else, that would waste billions more of our dollars and credit on a war that is little more than a corporate welfare plan must be stopped. We all agree on this already. Let's agree that the same will be true in 2009. And let's put it in writing.
The single biggest complaint that we heard about impeaching George W. Bush was that there's not enough time and, aw shucks, there's an election coming up anyway and we don't want to piss off voters. Well, in 2009, that all changes. We will have eight years to impeach the next president, whoever that may be. Since we all now know impeachment takes such a long time and so much effort, let's get started early.
I'm not suggesting that we impeach any particular candidate for president, nor a candidate of any particular party. For those that worry about that, well, certainly no Democratic President would keep us embroiled in Iraq and/or Iran, would they? So we are all safe to sign off on this, right? You sign my blank check, and I'll sign yours.
