The Longest Walk2 comes to the White House (photos)

Fri Jul 11, 2008 at 11:44:52 AM PDT

Thirty years ago I was one of thousands who had joined the Longest Walk.

This morning, another group of walkers reached the White House as they finished the Longest Walk 2.

I wrote about both walks in a Dairy the other night:
30 years ago, I walked to DC and changed my life...

This morning I joined the walk for the last few blocks on the way to the White House and the circle that gathered on Pennsylvania Avenue. I thought I would share a few photos of the event:

To the jump...

Three decades ago, I had no idea of that the Longest Walk would set me on the arc of my life, but it did. One of the speakers this morning talked about how the Medicine carried by the Walkers across the Nation would change them and call them to action, now and thirty years from now. From my own experience I can say that it is true.

The Longest Walk in 1978 was an important spiritual highpoint of my life and I can say that the experience put me on the path to have the focus to do the work that I've done tracking the culture of corruption and Jack Abramoff. As a member of the minority race and minority sex on the planet (aka a White Guy) the experience of the walk has always given me perspective of my place and responsibilities as a citizen of this Nation and this planet.

My heart smiled to stand in the circle this morning and listen to the words, songs and drums.

I want to thank and honor the Walkers in 1978 and 2008 and express my gratitude for the path that the Longest Walk set me on three decades ago.

And I will honor each of you who have chosen set yourselves on a path of change, a path of action and an embrace of the fight for justice as we work to take this Country back.

Below are some photos.

Cheers
